Darwin’s Vineyard — Crime, Privilege and Belonging in Tasmania

$34.95

From Tasmania’s stunning East Coast farmlands and sea view vineyards to Hobart’s Georgian sandstone streets and battling housing commission estates this is a story about one man’s entitled dominance and a cold murder case. Colen Campbell has it all but wants more. Will he and other big players get what they want? Or have they underestimated the power of young people, a good cop and a clever pair of disreputable PR executives who suddenly find a conscience?

Description

Hot rocks, a precious new source of energy for a Europe under siege from Vladimir Putin

In Tasmania, world renowned geologist and vigneron Colen Campbell has an audacious plan to secretly control that source.

He hires a Hobart public relations company with international connections.  Paddy Kennedy and Helen Troy, the Dream makers, will make it happen.

In Tasmania’s beautiful east coast there are two homesteads in a fertile valley overlooking the sea. One is Colen Campbell’s prosperous vineyards and sheep runs, the other lies deserted following two mystery deaths, still unsolved.

The two properties are also on stolen aboriginal land, granted by colonial governors to the Campbell family and their neighbours, back in the 1830’s.

Kennedy and Troy are also involved in the dream making of successful Balkans immigrant, Lenny Lucic, who has a dream to build an affordable village on the outskirts of Hobart, a friendly, liveable place where families greet each other and kids are safe in the carless streets. It was his dead wife’s dream but their daughter Daria, the Real Estate Queen of Tasmania wants to sabotage the new village project. Profit before people.

Kennedy and Troy try to deal with two projects, complicated by the fact that Paddy Kennedy is attracted to Colen Campbell’s wife, May, the famous Vietnamese orphan in the carboard box.

This is a modern mystery based on the struggle for power and control in a state where secrets are wealth itself and connections run deep.

Darwin’s Vineyard is a world where the strong take from the weak and Colen Campbell’s clique runs the show.

Darwin’s Vineyard is the fourth novel by former Senator and State Minister, Terry Aulich.
